Landscapes

Mieke tackles landscapes from an unconventional point of view. It is the detail within the larger landscape, and interesting composition that attracts. She is intrigued by the beauty within the organic form created by negative space and repeated pattern. There is the belief that beauty precedes peace, and such paintings can bring just that.

The Compass : is our point of reference. Within these works, it questions the viewer's own point of reference in their lives; what and how do they follow? Are they being led, or forging their own way? For Mieke, it is her personal image for Christ, as he shows us the 'Way'. It also links to her Tahitian heritage, as traditional navigators of the sea and sky: you will often see Tahitian motifs within these works.
