Mieke's first inspiration is people. It is a great challenge to capture the character of a personality. It is a subject that will always remain interesting and relevant to everyone. she loves seeing the reaction of a person receiving a painting of a loved one. Mieke also has a strong passion for the spiritual, emotional and mental wellbeing of young people. The next stage of her work will be influenced by the youth that she works with, and the growing awareness and compassion for the issues surrounding young people. She will use youth as the subjects for portrait and figure works that act as an avenue for expressing generic and personal youth issues such as suicide and bullying, allowing the youth to have a voice and bringing awareness of these issues to the wider public. In a nutshell, - Advocacy for youth through art!
